Vancouver New Music and Publik Secrets team up this fall to present Wild Bells / frequencies / Drift. ‘Wild Bells No. 4’ is a piece that features handmade ceramic percussion instruments by Roxanne Nesbitt, ‘frequencies’ is a kinetic sound sculpture by George Rahi, and ‘Drift’ a vocal piece by Robyn Jacob that compliments ‘frequencies’ bell-like tones.
In the spirit of this presentation, we offer a playlist of music by artists who have pushed the limits of traditional instruments by inventing their own. The resulting sounds are as varied as the creations themselves – from meditative, to cinematic, to playful, and everything in between.
Featuring: Harry Partch, Trimpin, Moondog, Stefan Lakatos, Meara O’Reilly, The Vegetable Orchestra, Sarah Angliss, Ellen Fullman & Theresa Wong, Paolo Angeli, Diego Stocco, Hildur Guðnadóttir (featuring Halldór Úlfarsson’s “halldoraphone”), and Harry Bertoia.
